Why
For thousands of years families have made music together. Working songs, playing songs and lullabies are all part of our common heritage of musical storytelling and family bonding. Just because we can now download the latest Country music hit doesn't mean that we shouldn't still be singing our own songs to each other. In many ways it's now more important than ever.
Music is a universal language and music is a very important part of learning for children. It helps in learning counting, language structure, self-discipline, memorization, poetry, creativity, art appreciation and language skills. Who would have thought that The Hokey Pokey was so important to your child's development!
Music is organized into beats and bars, into rhythm and melody. Lyrics in songs also have their own structure and often a rhyming scheme. As children learn how songs are structured they are also learning at the same time about how language and poetry are structured. With repetition, songs help to re-enforce the rudiments of language, the sounds and shapes of words and how they fit together in families of words, in easy-to-remember phrases. When this learning is combined with movement, the learning and the fun can be intensified.
For years we have heard parents say that they wish that there was some way to bring music into their families. With Song Takes Flight, you don't need any musical experience whatsoever to be involved. Song Takes Flight is a program for children and their parents. All you need is the desire to bring music, dance and art into your lives. You come to every group lesson with your child to learn and grow together musically. You and your children will make music together for years to come.
Because of the program's close relationship with Surreal Studios, music is constantly updated and kept current with contemporary styles, something very important to today's media-savvy children.
Song Takes Flight is forward-thinking, using contemporary musical styles often presented with multi-media tools. The well thought-out music played during the class ensures a full and consistent musical experience for each group. Visual images and hands-on props complement the music. The curriculum is lightweight in delivery.
The focus is fun!
